Hello boys and girls. How many of you remember who God sent because he loves us?

Today we’re going to hear more about Jesus!

Jesus’ Death and Resurrection - Matthew 26:36-28:10, Acts 1: 8-9, John 14:26

God loves us very much so He sent his only Son to Earth.

In order to save us from our sins so that we can be with God who is perfect, Jesus must give his life up.

Jesus Praying at Gethsemane

Today, our story starts at Gethsemine.

Jesus came with three of his disciples to pray.

He asked his disciples to pray and as he was praying, Jesus was sweating blood because he was so nervous.

Have any of you been so nervous that you were sweating blood?

Why is Jesus so nervous?

Jesus knows that he has to die on the cross and he talks to God since he is scared.

When he goes back to his three disciples, guess what they were doing? Remember he told them to pray.

They had fallen asleep already! He went back two more times to pray and each time his disciples had fallen asleep.

Judas Betrays Jesus with a kiss

One of Jesus’ disciples, Judas, betrays Jesus for 30 pieces of silver.

He told the bad guys that for 30 pieces of silver, he would deliver Jesus to them.

He comes with soldiers and tells them that the one that he kisses is Jesus.

Judas kisses Jesus and the soldiers come to capture him.

The Disciples Run Away

Peter takes out a sword and cuts off one of the soldier’s ears.

Jesus tells Peter to stop.

Why did Jesus tell Peter to stop?

Because Jesus needed to follow God’s plan to die for our sins.

Then the rest of the disciples run away and Jesus is captured.

Jesus is Falsely Accused

After they captured him, they told lies about Jesus to try to get him killed.

Who has lied before?

Even with all the lies, there was no real evidence against Jesus.

Pilate, the governor, realized that they were handing over Jesus to him because they were jealous.

The Jews asked Pilate to crucify Jesus.

Jesus is Beaten and Given a Crown of Thorns

The soldiers beat up Jesus and gave him a purple robe, a crown of thorns, and a stick to hold to make fun of him.

They spit on him and hit him.

Jesus is Nailed to the Cross

Finally they nailed Jesus to the cross. They put thick nails through his hands and his feet to nail him to the cross.

Two robbers were also killed next to him.

After 9 hours on the cross, Jesus cried out and finally died.

There was a big earthquake when he died.

Jesus is Buried Behind a Stone

Since Jesus said he was going to die and then rise up again in 3 days, they rolled a huge stone in front of where he was buried and put two soldiers to guard the tomb.

The Tomb is Empty

On the third day after Jesus died, two Mary’s came to see the tomb.

There was a big earthquake because an angel rolled away the big stone. The guards were so scared.

When the Mary’s got to the tomb, it was empty!

The angels told them that Jesus was alive!

Jesus Appears to the Disciples and Mary

After that Jesus appeared to his disciples or followers and to Mary.

He showed them the holes in his hand and feet.

Jesus had come back from the dead.

By dying on the sin, he was the sacrifice for us so that we could be clean of our sins.

Jesus Ascends

After appearing to his disciples and telling them to spread the good news and showing them he was alive for 40 days, Jesus was lifted up to heaven.

Two men in white clothes told his disciples that Jesus will come back in the same way that he left when the time is right.

Even though he is now gone, his sacrifice allowed the Holy Spirit to come to every believer.

Romans 6:23 - For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Jesus died for our sins and believing in him is the only way for us to be saved from death forever since we can go to heaven.
